What is a Healthy Eating Plate?

The healthy eating plate highlights the different types of food that should make up a healthy diet and shows the proportions we should eat to have a well balanced and healthy eating plan.

The Healthy Eating Plate is used to provide detailed guidance, in a simple visual format, to help people make the best eating choices when it comes to eating healthy.  Healthy Eating Plate as a guide for creating healthy eating plans balanced meals always provide you with the best chance of getting the right amount of daily nutritional intake. Whether you serve this healthy meal on a plate or provide it in a packed lunch box.

What is an Eatwell plate?

An eat well plate is the same as healthy eating plate, a guide that provides you with a visual representation of the food groups you should look to consume each day to make sure you get the correct portions, of daily intake of nutrients you need for your body to function correctly and remain healthy.

It is always a good idea to try and get this balance right every day, but you don’t need to be over consumed and do it at every meal. And you might find it easier to get the portions and the balance right over a longer period. Try to choose healthy eating options that are lower in salt and sugar content.

Eating a healthy diet is about eating the right amount of food for your energy needs. If you’ve watched the news recently, it is said that most adults are either overweight or obese. This news information translates to the fact that many of us are eating more than what we need, and should eat and drink fewer calories in order to lose weight.

Based on the Healthy Eating plate portions, try to eat: 

Plenty of fruit and vegetables – We should be eating at least five portions of a variety of fruit and veg every day?

Plenty of potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, and other starchy foods – Select wholegrain varieties whenever possible, or eat potatoes with their skins on for more fibre.

Milk and dairy foods – Go for semi-skimmed milk and low-fat dairy foods. These are healthier options enabling you to get enough protein and calcium that your body needs.

Meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein – These food types are important sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals, and should form part of a healthy balanced diet.

Make it a small amount of foods and drinks that are high in fat or sugar – Reduce intake of fat and sugar by eating fewer sweets, cakes, and biscuits, and drinking fewer sugary soft drinks.


Summary – Is the Healthy Eating plate for me?

The healthy eating plate applies to most if not all adults and children over the age of 2, whether they’re overweight or a healthy weight, they eat meat or are vegetarian, and no matter what their ethnic origin or religion.

Eating healthy is important for everyone especially with the rise in obesity and other weight-related illnesses, we must all strive hard to maintain a good healthy diet and take part in physical exercise to keep our body fit and healthy.  Till my next post stay well, eat well and be active.
